


There is an interesting similarity of ideas, here. The Honda ad was discussed widely for the so-called ‘typo’ till a lot of people pointed to those who called out the typo that it was entirely intentional.
1. Both are in the auto sector – one in 4-wheelers (Hyundai CRDi) and the other in 2-wheelers (Honda)
2. Both use a wrong year to add an element of surprise. Honda goes back in time (2009, instead of 2019), while Hyundai uses a forward date (it was released in 2002!), meant to denote the deadline for Euro III Emission norms.
3. Both are primarily chest-thumping about technological superiority, and pulling up rivals for lagging behind.
I wonder if the ads are by the same advertising agency – I don’t know, but would be interesting to find/know.
