I noticed this new TVC starring Sridevi, for Vanish fabric stain remover – it has a last shot with Sridevi seated in a largi’sh chair and uttering Mr. India’s iconic dialog by Amrish Puri – ‘Mogambo khush hua’. She may be referring to Vanish’s legendary stain removing capabilities and it sounds fine too.
What doesn’t sound fine is the TVC’s Tamil version; it has Sridevi saying, ‘Mogambo santhoshamaayittaan’ (or ‘Kushi aaittaan’) – basically the transliterated version of the dialog. The problem is that Mogambo did not utter these lines in Tamil. Even the same Hindi dialog would have been a better choice instead of this sad transliteration because Mr. India is such a famous film. We do not need the brand to hammer the exact meaning of that dialog just because people in that state speak another language – some dialogs are just those…in the language they were spoken at, first.
